Do unto others...3/15/2017
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you..."
There it is; the Golden Rule. Jesus said it; it is our duty to live it.
Most of us like the idea of others treating us with respect, mercy, compassion, and grace; even when we do not necessarily deserve it. But when it becomes OUR turn to to treat those around us with the same, it is incredibly easy for us to make excuses as to why the other person "deserved" what they got. Notice, there is no stipulation on the Golden Rule. "Do unto others...if!" Instead, it is just a simple command that should be followed with no prerequisite.
I would like to say that in every situation, my entire life, I have been consistent to abide by this principle, but that would be a lie. I can say with integrity, however, that I endeavor to make the Golden Rule my simple code of ethics. Do all my clients deserve my very best? Have I ever had a client that has taxed the limits of my composure? Do I get frustrated with people and situations? The resounding answer to these is YES! But none of them should ever change how I treat you; because in the end, that is what you, my client, will remember.
How did I treat you?
Was I honest? Did I do what I said I would do? Did I look out for your best interests and not mine? Did I give you my very best in every situation? Did I work diligently to represent you? Was I your sounding board when you got frustrated?
Did I treat you the way I want to be treated myself?
